In Memoriam
This Outlook website was created in 2001 in memory of Peter C. Jarnes (1909-2002) and Lauretta Wilcox Jarnes (1907-1993), husband and wife, by their two children, Norman Jarnes (1945-2022, then publishing editor for Worldview Publications) and Ann Jarnes Randall (editorial associate and webmaster), in gratitude for their parents’ faithful witness and legacy of freedom.
Peter and Lauretta Jarnes, with the leadership of Australian lay theologian, farmer, businessman and civic leader, Robert D. Brinsmead, and, later, Jack D. Zwemer, D.D.S., Ph.D. (1924-2017) — scientist, academic, and then Episcopal lay theologian and editor/researcher for Worldview Publications — courageously journeyed outside the camp of their religious tradition. In light of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and bearing his reproach, they forsook the walled holy city of their religious past for an open future in pilgrim tents, giving witness to the One who, in his life, death and resurrection as Jesus Christ, acted to become human (see Hebrews 11:8-10, 13-16; 12:1, 2; 13:12-14; Philippians 2:5-8).
Because of God’s “unspeakable gift” of himself as Jesus Christ — who is the resurrection and the life — the posterity of Peter and Lauretta Jarnes are “persuaded, that . . . [not even] death . . . shall be able to separate [these loved ones] . . . from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (2 Corinthians 9:15; John 11:25; Romans 8:38, 39).
